8 Management Lessons to learn from Kung Fu Panda

Kung Fu Panda is an animated movie series but perhaps the lessons it gives are far more valuable than any other movie I have ever watched. It is one of my favourite films. Following are the lessons that I learnt from watching the Kung fu Panda movies:

LESSON 1: BEING LOW MAY NOT BE YOUR FAULT, BUT STAYING LOW IS

There is quote where soothsayer says your story may not have happy beginning but that does not make you what you are. It is the rest of it- who you choose to be.

When Po, the kung fu panda started learning kung fu, he was at a level 0. He didn’t know anything. But he went on to become the famous dragon warrior beating everyone else.

LESSON 2: BELIEVE IN YOURSELF

Initially, everyone makes fun of Po and do not consider him worthy of being a dragon warrior. But in the end of first part, secret of dragon scroll is told. Dragon scroll is believed to be a scroll which would give its reader abundant power and strength. Po, our kung fu panda opens it to find it blank and empty. It is when his adopted father explains him that there was no secret ingredient to the special noodles he used to sell. It is at this point of time that Po realizes there is no secret ingredient required. Just the belief that something is special is enough to make that thing special.

LESSON 3: NEVER STOP LEARNING

As Master Oogway says there is always more to learn even for a master. In the time of Total Quality Management where goal is to strive for continuous improvement, this is a related message. Master Shifu is constantly learning new things and teaching them to his students. In third part, Po himself becomes the teacher.

LESSON 4: PUSH YOUR LIMITS

As Master Shifu says: “If you only do what you can do, you will never be better than what you are”

You have to stretch yourself beyond your comfort zone. Nothing worth it is going to be served to you in your comfort zone. You have got to work for it. Master Shifu is a very tough trainer but has a major role in development of his students especially Po.

LESSON 5: BE YOURSELF

As Po learns: “Your real strength comes from being the best you, you can be. So who are you? What are you good at? What do you love? What makes you, you?” We are the best when we are most comfortable. We should not pretend to be someone else. Just be yourself. In a world where you can become anyone, be yourself!

LESSON 6: BE THE BEST VERSION OF YOURSELF

As Master Shifu explains to Po: “I am not trying to turn you into me. I am just trying to turn you into you.” In life, we must be the best version of yourself. We should not compete with others. We should be better than what we were yesterday. Always give your 100%. Never give anything less than your best.

LESSON 7: LIVE IN THE MOMENT

As Master Oogway says: “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is mystery. Today is a gift which is why it is called present.” We have to live in the moment. We do not need to worry about past or future unnecessarily. Most of the time, the things we worry about never happen. We think of so many things all the time. Even while reading this post, you would be thinking what you would be doing tomorrow or may be where is your life going. We must learn to live in the moment. Only by living in the moment, we can work to our fullest.

LESSON 8: INNER PEACE

This is perhaps the most important lesson. Inner peace is all that matters. Anything which costs you your inner peace is not worth it. You have to gain inner peace which should be your ultimate target. Your ultimate objective is not to be rich, it is to be happy. And in order to be happy, you need to have inner peace.

Apart from these lessons, Kung fu panda is awesomely awesome. Pandas are too cute and learning is just the cherry on the top. After reading these lessons and thinking upon it, try watching these movies again. This will help you have a new vision for watching it.

I love Kung Fu Panda movies! They are super funny and teachy. I hope that one day I’ll have a perfect inner piece that inbreakable (haha I guess that’s never gonna happen but it would be nice though!). Also being the best version of yourselft and learning every single day is super important. Work for your goals, and move forward.
