Mailchimp is one of the most widely used Email service providers. We have already seen why it is very important for bloggers to start Email Marketing right from day 1. I am using mailchimp since last couple of months and it is quite easy and helpful. Mailchimp offers upto 2000 Email subscribers and 12000 emails per month for free. This is great for all the beginners. Following are the basic steps foe creating an Email Marketing Campaign in Mailchimp:
Step 1: Creating a Subscribers list
This is the most important step. If you have a genuine, original subscribers list, all the next steps become too easy. Note that I am not talking here about the bought lists. They do not generally work well and Email service providers like mailchimp do not allow that. They want subscribers to verify for optin. Also original lists may take time but the help and advantages it offers are just priceless.
We can start creating a list by importing contacts and facebook friends. But the main method is to make a sign up form and embed it in your blog. Increasing subscriber list is a huge topic in itself which will be covered in the coming articles.
Step 2: Creating few sample templates
Mailchimp provides you an opportunity to get creative with your mail. It provides some basic templates. You can make some changes and develop some basic templates if you have to send almost similar pattern mails.
Step 3: Identify purpose of your Email
Broadly, there are 3 types of mails: Introductory mails (Where you greet new subscriber, give him some free goodies), Responding Mail (Here you may inform him of happenings or resolve a particular query) and Sales Mail (Moving ahead in sales funnel, you may try selling him relevant interested product) You can also read Things to keep in mind while composing Email.
Step 4: Creating a campaign
In the mailchimp dashboard at top, you will find option of campaign. In campaign, select Create campaign. Select type of text, Select the list to whom you want to send mail. Mention the subject line. Mailchimp also provides option of evaluating the subject line. We can make subject line more creative by using the Emojis. Personalize the fields in template. Add and delete relevant content. Add buttons like “go to post” or link of post. Add the social follow.
Maintain link to text and word to image ratio. Use optimized images. After properly verifying all of the above points, one can send the Email.
Step 5: Analyze Reports
Periodically, keep modifying your subscriber list. Mailchimp rates all your subscribers. You should keep track of all your metrics. Click through rate and bounce rates should be deeply analyzed. You should do A/B testing as well. If you find few subscribers not opening any mail at all, you should keep removing them from your list as well. Such a periodic cleaning of lists is also required from time to time. Proper analysis will help you in identifying next course of action.
