The original quote goes somewhat like this: “If wishes were horses, even beggars would ride them”. If wishes were really horses.. is what I believe is the correct scenario.
I disagree to the original quote. I believe that even if wishes were really horses, it would be difficult for everyone to ride them. I would like to quote Michaelangelo: “The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark.” This seems to be particularly true in current circumstances where people have high tendency of settling down with what they think they can.
I believe that you need to aim high. You need to wish for more, then plan for more and finally strive for more. If with your current capacity, you are unable to achieve your goals, try increasing your efforts and capacity rather than decreasing goals level.
Most difficult of all the tasks is imagining. Imagining takes lot of courage. By default, we are taught to follow the stream, play safe and those thoughts embed so deep in our mind that we forget the most useful gift given to us by god: Imagination.
Earlier people used to say: “If God intended man to fly, he would had given us wings”. Wright brothers proved them wrong. It only needs imagination. Rest follows it.
In my opinion, even if wishes were horses, people would be having tough time reading it. Most of the time, people limit themselves with their own thinking of themselves. They do not like the idea to challenge themselves or get out of their comfort zones.
Just like you need reins to control your steed, same way you need confidence in yourself to ride the wishes. We are only limited by the doubts we invent ourselves.
It needs courage to dream and wish for something. It needs even more courage to try working on it. We are too scared to spend our time and energy on our dreams because we are so convinced that we might fail.
How many of us really think like free horses. If you had a magical lamp and a genie did come out of it asking: “what are your 3 wishes my master?” What would be your reaction? Do you have those 3 wishes in mind which genie can grant you without any restriction? You can ask anything. I am sure most of us do not have any such wish list because we put feasibility statuses against our wishes and most of the time, we suppress those ideas. Try brainstorming those ideas regardless of how illogical they sound. Unless you dare to trust those instincts, you can hardly reap benefits of your imaginative power.
I am not asking you to start picking up impossible tasks and make efforts to do it. I am just asking to try things once before shutting the thoughts out straight way. A little brainstorming never hurt anyone.
I don’t see any harm in thinking big. There is a distinct power in thinking bold. When you think big and bold, it automatically gives you the confidence. You just need the trust in self and a leap of faith. Believing in self is the prerequisite in doing anything.
I think that one should always act as if wishes are horses and wish for the best. Aim for stars. So that even if you fall short, you fall on moon. I believe Clement Stone’s quote is the right approach to target. Always believe that the target is within the range.
We are only limited by our thinking.Above all, believe in yourself. If you can dream it, you can achieve it.
